Move over, spooky season — it’s SPARROW SEASON!
Join us on SUNDAY October 19th at Rustlewood Farm in Kittery, Maine — part of the Kittery Land Trust — an underrated gem for fall birding. This working farm attracts a wide variety of wildlife, especially birds.
During this time of year, we expect to spot several species of sparrows, including white-crowned, swamp, field, Lincoln’s, fox, and possibly even the rarer grasshopper sparrow. Other exciting birds recorded at Rustlewood in mid-October include American pipits, Dickcissels, indigo buntings, rusty blackbirds, and various birds of prey.
We'll explore several birding “hotspots” around the farm, which means walking across uneven fields and crossing a stream — a favorite hangout for birds to bathe. In addition to birdwatching, Rustlewood is a great place to observe interesting plants and insects.
