Join us on Saturday, October 17 as we explore the summit of Mt. Agamenticus in Cape Neddick, Maine, followed by a visit to the Center for Wildlife where we’ll explore their nature center and Ambassador Village and meet some of their resident wildlife ambassadors!
Mt. Agamenticus, affectionately known as “Mt. A,” is a fantastic destination for fall birding. September through November can bring migrating hawks to the summit, and while raptor activity can be hit-or-miss depending on the weather and wind conditions, there is always plenty to enjoy. The summit offers beautiful views of the surrounding landscape and fall foliage, along with an extensive trail system for exploring.
The open summit, with its low-growing trees and shrubs and expansive views, can be an excellent place to look for migrating sparrows and other songbirds, as well as hawks and other raptors. With a little luck, we may even spot some of Mt. A’s mammal residents, including the American Porcupine!
After our morning of birding, we’ll head to the Center for Wildlife (CFW), located near the base of Mt. Agamenticus. CFW is a privately funded wildlife clinic and education center that has treated more than 82,000 injured and orphaned wild animals over its 38 years.
A few years ago, CFW moved into a beautiful, purpose-built facility designed to support both wildlife rehabilitation and environmental education. We’ll have the opportunity to explore the facility, visit the Ambassador Village, and get an up-close look at some of the animals who call CFW home while learning more about the important work they do for Maine’s wildlife.
